Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Specific • Visually inspect the plant for excessive wear or changes to identify misalignments and failing parts. • Remove bags in silo filter vent and dust collector and clean or replace to meet air quality standards. • Perform alignment, adjustments, tightening, splicing or replacing of conveyor belts as well as adjusting or replacing skirt-boards and conveyor seals as needed. • Inspect tension on all V-drive belts to ensure equipment runs optimally. • Inspect, replace, and install guards to ensure they are in place for the safety of our Associates. • Schedule and coordinate equipment repairs and preventative maintenance to minimize plant and equipment downtime. • Perform plant equipment repairs, rebuilds, and equipment installations. • Lubricate all bearings including head and tail pulleys on all conveyors. Grease or replace bearings on bucket elevators. • Troubleshoot equipment failures and identify solutions. • Communicate with teams daily in person, via the phone or at team meetings to address needs, deadlines, and provide updates on current projects in each area. • Fabrication of mechanical components needed to maintain an efficient, productive, and safe production environment. • Use maintenance software to requisition parts, order parts, report labor, document equipment history, and complete work orders timely and accurately. • Complete pre-shift inspections on all mobile equipment such as manlift, material handler, crane, forklift, and utility vehicles before use and operate in a safe manner. • Follow all safety requirements including wearing appropriate PPE (harness and fall protection gear and respirators)

The role of the maintenance mechanic is to perform a wide range and variety of maintenance and repair operations necessary to keep plant property, equipment, machinery, and tools in good operating condition; diagnose problems and work in many varied and diversified capacities required in general maintenance, overhaul, and repair of plant equipment, processes and facilities. This position requires a general knowledge of mechanical systems, and electronics and electrical systems to include basic electrical repairs as needed or directed. The maintenance mechanic must be able to effectively plan and schedule plant and equipment maintenance activities to minimize technical downtime to plant production, and material handling activities. Requirements: Job Duties • Arrives at plant and views all operating lines/unit's production over the past 24 hours. • Understands misses, trends and potential outages affecting key process indicators. • Executes planned maintenance and supports cleaning activities as requested. • Participate, provide input to follow up / action planning. • Focus on trends, root cause problem solving, focused improvement completion, and identification of external support requests. • Review the weekly maintenance schedule to determine necessary engagement in scheduled activities. • Communicate effectively with Superintendent • Maintains a clean work area and any additional duties as assigned.
